LED & LCD TV Repair
LED and LCD TV Repair is it worth it? For a lot of people who are using LED or LCD TVs, there is a real fear about breaking. Anyone who has owned an expensive and high quality piece of technology knows that there is a good chance a break means it cannot be repaired. However, this “common” knowledge is actually an assumption that isn’t rooted in much fact. With the right professional, it is possible to get your television working again without any problems. More importantly, you can do so without having to worry whether or not you have to buy a fully new TV!
If your TV panel is still in one piece, meaning a brick hasn’t gone through the screen there is a good chance it can be repaired! A lot of common issues such as power, audio, HDMI can be fixed.
Starting with Diagnostics
The most important part of any LED TV repair is to figure out what is wrong with the product in the first place. Imagine a scenario where your television suddenly stops working and you think it is broken and thus throw it out. In some cases, a LED or LCD TV repair job means looking at the software and seeing whether there is a quick fix.
The process of diagnosing a repair job for the television is going to require a specialist even if you know what you are doing. Sometimes you can use different power switches, cables, and other external devices to see whether you have a faulty problem that you can fix. In some cases, you might find that it is just an old HDMI cable you need to replace!
However, sometimes it is more likely that you need the help of a professional to diagnose the issue. Some places offer a free diagnostic of the LED TV so that you can learn for free what the problem is. Then you can choose to have them fix it or another reputable provider.
LED TV Repair – What’s the Risk?
There are some people who claim to have expertise in a certain field, but actually do not have many credentials. You want to make sure that you find a professional for LED TV repair so that you don’t end up with an even worse television or being wrongly told that you cannot fix it. There is a risk of finding a poor quality LCD TV repair person so make sure that you are able to find someone who knows what they are talking about.
One great way to get excellent LED TV repair is to make sure you call in advance and speak to someone on the phone. You can discuss their credentials or, in some cases, even visit the location to find out whether they have any good knowledge of the subject. Sometimes local cities and organizations will offer awards to companies that show particularly good service and support for these type of electronics.

Running diagnostics on the tv is so important! I had my tv go out on me a few months ago and I thought it was a lost cause. I called a local repair shop and they talked me through a few things to check. Turns out it was just a broken power cable which cost me $15 to replace!
My TV broke and no longer turn on. Thanks for the advice about how a professional can fix the problem in the software. I’ll have to make sure that I find someone who is certified to work on LCD TVs. Hopefully, the company I find also does warranties so that I can know my computer is protected.
My tv has sound but no picture, can it be fixed & how much will it cost?
Sounds like one of your boards is bad. Pricing depends on what is wrong with the TV. We can look at it first to determine which component on the LED or LCD TV is bad and replace specific components or the necessary boards. This also depends on availability of parts for your particular model. Most mainstream models such as Samsung, LG, and Sony have parts available for most of their models. Feel free to call us. We can disassemble the TV, and test each board, then provide an accurate quote for you. Our Great Neck office phone is 516-499-6892. Thanks! Repair Sharks
Im having the same issue, my screen is black i get audio but if i put a light up to it i can see a faint picture about how much would this repair cost?
Possible you blew out your backlight. If it is the bulbs then it is usually on the expensive side of repair work due to having to remove the panel.
When the LCD TV gets old as the year passes, then it starts showing blurred images or your TV screen has wedged pixel, moreover, it might not even show anything sometimes. Facing these problems might lead you to make up your mind to exchange your LCD TV and take a new TV which consists of repairing system of the LCD screen. It is not an easy option to take a new TV when there may be any damage with TV. However purchasing a new LCD TV of the same model which you are currently using would not be same as if you would have bought it a year ago, still visiting a repair shop for LCD Screens is still a very useful option that you may get. It does not cost too much if you choose the option of repair for the LCD Screen.
My Samsung TV (LED Energy) is about six years old and it appears few block of lines on the top and bottom. Worth to fix it or get a new TV?
Hello Lisa, it depends. It could be the panel itself is failing or one of the boards. If the panel is bad it would be recommended to replace the LED TV. If it took any type of shock damage the panel itself may be going bad.
Samsung tv model LE46M878DXIXEU Has a problem that it switches its self on and off, reading on the internet, its a common fault, can it be fixed, if so is it as cost effective way to go ?
Thanks Mick
Hello Mick, this sounds like it may be repairable. Feel free to give us a call at 516-499-6892. Sincerely, Repair Sharks
Smart tv it turns and by it wouldn’t not stay on jus5 second …on and off …by self ..
This sounds like a power issue. Possibly bad capacitors.
My TV won’t turn on. It’s a Sony and 1.5 years old. It’ll initially turn on and then off after 30 seconds and the red light blinks 6 times. Won’t turn on again. Is it worth repairing?
It could be worth repairing, depends on what’s causing the issue. If its one of the internal boards then yes it is worth repairing, if it is the LCD panel or bad backlights it may not be worth it. Feel free to call us to discuss 516-499-6892 350 Northern Blvd Great Neck, NY. Sincerely, Repair Sharks
I have a 65″ lcd. My son threw a metal small car and only the color looks like it’s shattered not the screen itself. I moved the TV to another part of my living room and the color shattering got worse. Is it worth fixing or even getting an estimate
Sounds like the LCD panel is bad, you could email us a picture if you like at support@repairsharks.com. We can then get a better idea if its repairable. Sincerely, Repair Sharks
Just e mailed you guys with pics!
Hello. Just wanna ask if an LED TV fell on the ground, would it still ve repaired? Thanks.
Not likely worth the cost of repairing unfortunately. If the panel itself has physical damage then the panel itself would need to be replaced. The cost of this type of repair usually outweighs the cost of buying replacement. Sincerely, Repair Sharks
I have a large screen lcd television which was hit with a heavy object. There is no damage to the outside structure but when you turn the tv on, the entire left side of the screen is black. Worth trying to repair?
Unfortunately it sounds like you damaged the LCD panel itself. This would not generally be worth repairing due to the cost of the panel and service. Sincerely, Repair Sharks
Hello,
My 6 yr old Phillips LED believe was damaged during a storm. It was hooked to an older power surge. It clicks like it wants to turn on but just clicks. Would it be worth repairing?
It’s possible the power supply may have blown. It could be worth fixing.
I have a Sam Sung 44 in Smart TV bought in 2014m Model # UN4645203AF. No sound – No picture.
I have checked all connections. Any suggestions for what is the problem?
Could be a bad board. It’s hard to tell exactly what without looking at it but it does sound like that may be the culprit.
I have a 75inch 4uHD tv and it had gotten crcaked upon dilvery how much would it be to replace the lcd
Replacing the LCD is generally not cost effective. The price of replacing an actual LCD Panel inside the TV is usually more expensive than buying a replacement unfortunately.
I have Sony KDL – 70R550A 4 year old lad tv.. There is no physical damage BUT, one day while watching, left half screen went dark and the right half screen showed the picture. I tried to bang the tv gently on top left (per a YouTube video), the full picture came back but only for a week. Now, 3/4th screen is dark and picture is on 1/4th screen.
Is it repairable for a reasonable service charge? Thanks!
This could be a bad panel or a bad board. If the panel itself is bad then usually not worth repairing but if it is a bad board then yes it is worth fixing.
Hi, i have an LG 50″ and it is flickering is it worth fixing.
Depends, did it take any physical damage?
My Samsung lcd has lines on entire screen, when turned off and on again the lines disappears for only few minutes and again the same issue, lines on entire screen, please suggest is it worth repair.
Could be a board or the panel itself, hard to tell.
I have a 32 inch flat screen led tv and all I get is sound but no picture can it be fixed I don’t want to pay too much if it means buying a new tv!
Could be a bad board or bad backlight perhaps, might be repairable if the panel wasn’t physically damage.
Our two yr old Samsung 60 inch TV has suddenly gotten darker the top of the screen. Sometimes it will clear up. Started in December. Then it was fine for a few weeks. And now doing it again. Is it fixable?
Interesting, could be a bad board or bad back light behind the LCD. The back light bulbs can and do burn out. This is a big repair if this is the case since the LCD panel itself generally needs to be disassembled.
Have a 47lv5500 , black screen no sound is it worth replacing board don’t know which one is bad think it’s only 4 to 5 years old
If you can find a cheap replacement board than it may be worth fixing.
Old LG LCD TV. The image is slow. Like leaving a ghost image behind, alsmost still watchable if not an action scene. Als a little dark. Can this be repaired, and what would be the culprit? And would you know the cost of the part and the repair?
Could need a new panel. How old is it?
I’m wondering where to buy lcd screens. I have this lg ultrawide 34 inch with a damaged screen. Looking to repair myself. “Sucker for punishment” any guidance will be appreciated. Thank you.
Wish we could help but finding replacement panels is very difficult and expensive. Cheaper to replace the TV in most cases.
I have a 65 inch Samsung LED smart tv it seem to have a crack on the screen thats blacking majority of the picture out. Can it be fix and how much you think
Not worth repairing unfortunately if it has physical damage.
I have a 15 year old 40″ Sony Bravia LCD TV (paid $4,300 at a Circuit City store). It had the best resolution I’ve ever seen. When I turn it on the picture is fine for a few minutes- and then it’s totally wavy, impossible to view. I used the TV constantly for 10 years until the picture went bad. I thought the problem could be my signal, but 2 different cable guys thought the TV had just gotten old and needed to be replaced- I replaced it with a Samsung but the picture on that old SONY was so good that I stored it. Any chance it could be repaired (parts replaced) with a $1,000 budget? (It would be worth it to me.) PS It was never dropped or abused. Thank you so much.
I’m familiar with some of those old Bravia’s. Their quality was very good back then. Problem with such an old TV is finding components. It could either be a loose ribbon cable connection or the panel itself may be going and not worth replacing.
My philips LED tv got hit by a ball and the place where ball hit become darker or low light.cab this be repaired?
Not worth it in our opinion. Better off purchasing another TV. If you have physical damage it’s generally not worth the panel replacement cost.
my LG LED TV 17 INCHES, TV STARTED SHOWING GHOST PICTURES WOT MIGHT BE PROBLEM
Panel could possibly be the culprit.
I have a Samsung LED 60 in Smart TV 3D vertical lines just appeared today from top to bottom they always stay on the TV is a little over 5 years old can it be fixed and is it worth it
Bad T-con board possibly.
my 50 inch led tv , blinks off for a second and then back on, and repeats all over again all the time
Possible power issue. Would need to test the power supply.
My son hit my tv with something hard and made the middle of my tv. And now it has black lines the middle of the tv. Could it be repair?
Physical panel damage isn’t usually worth repairing. Sorry 🙁
Hi. I have a Samsung 2010 55 inch LED. The screen will not turn on and the red corner light blinks and it makes a clicking noise. It’s most likely not the capacitors (they were replaced). Is it worth it to try putting a new board in? Cost would be about $350. Thoughts on replacing the board and how much life it might still have left?
This actually does sound like your power supply. The capacitors are on the Power Supply but other components may have failed. Pick up a PS and and try to replace it if you are handy. Just be careful, very high voltage on those. Let them discharge for a while to be safe. There are videos on youtube if you need instructions on replacing and testing.
Hey my luxor tv just went pop and a white flash came from top of tv then a little white smoke. Is it worth getting fixed?
Sounds like you blew a cap. Give us a call for more information it may need a new board or cap replacement.
Hi, I’ve got an LG LED TV (Model: 55LN5710) that 4 years old and still has splendid picture and sound; however, after a few hours of playing, if I pick up and change channel or, even more frequently, adjust the volume, the TV will turn on and off and eventually stay on. MORE OFTEN when I went to change input, it would do the same. Is there an easy cure. I am disabled and on fixed income… I no longer have nor remember how to use a multimeter (been years) but if a component needs to be replaced, I’ve no doubt I could do it myself. I’m sure that it would cost a lot less then seeing a repair man in most instances. Please help!!!
First I’d say to check the caps on the power supply. It could be one of the board chips going getting flaky. There are some good youtube TV repair videos that show how to test.
I have a 3 year old Samsung Smart TV 55in was told the backlighting needs replaced.
Generally this is one of the more expensive repairs as it requires removal of the entire panel.
I have a samsung 46″ led smart tv. On one side you can see white lights.. looks like flashlight beams. On the other upper corner there is a dark shadow. Everything work fine but this. When wat hinges a movie it’s really not noticeable but I would like to have it repaired before it gets worse.
Interesting, I wonder if the backlight bulbs are having issues. Any physical damage?
My toshiba was working great one night picture clear as can be but in the morning turn it on I got sound but the screen is black. Can it be repair some one said it might be the back light? It a led tV.
It could be a backlight. If it is that is generally on the more expensive side for repairs. The entire TV usually needs to be disassembled to reach the backlight bulbs.
My Sharp LCD tv picture turns off an on randomly the sound stays perfect, then eventually the set just turns off. . The OPC also keeps wanting to change. I reset (init) via the service tech menu still no change. Is this a power supply issue or board?
Sounds like a possible power supply. You could check voltages with a multi-meter if you feel comfortable. Use caution as there could be high voltage lingering in the components. There are some good instruction videos on youtube.
Any sense in repairing a 2009 SONY KDL-32L5000. Or just buy a new TV for $329 or less ? Picture has vertical stripes over the TV video image.
It’s hard to say, you definitely get what you pay for. My friend just bought a 55″ for 1700.00 I’ve seen them as cheap as $400. What is the real difference though? Picture quality, if you compare low end screens to high end screens the LCD/LCD Panel quality is what drives much of the cost. For a 32″ $329 seems fair. I’ve seen them as cheap as $100.00. Look for the best picture quality for your budget. The only way to tell usually is to go see a display model.
Hello, my 5 year old Sony 70″ LCD TV has one solid horizontal black line across the middle of the screen. Is it worth getting fixed? Any ideas what could be causing this?
Sounds like it’s possibly a bad board. Did it happen to take any physical damage?
I have a 55″ with a cracked screen. It still powers on half the acreen is blacked out and the other half is somewhat lit. Is it worth repairing or replacing?
Hello Monique, it would probably be the most cost efficient for you to replace the TV. Repairing a broken panel can be very expensive and is usually recommended to replace the TV.
It was really nice to be informed that because different tools are required to truly figure out what is wrong with the television, it is best to leave it to the professionals. If that is the case, then I will start looking for an appliance repairman to help me out. The TV has been acting strange lately, and I do not think it’s the cable. Since I have no tools to find out the problem, I’ll seek help.
my LCD TV after connecting it seem it wants to open bt it went flat up to know wats de matter
Is the TV having an issue turning on? If there isn’t any physical damage it could be a bad board possibly.
