So we are finally seeing the new iPad Mini hit the market. What does everyone think so far? It’s our prediction that the iPad Mini is going to be one of the hottest gifts this holiday season. With kids all over the world drooling over their parents and siblings iPads every parent is going to have to answer the call of today’s technology savvy adolescent.
Kids are growing up with cutting edge technology both in the classroom and at home. Many parents can afford or see the value in purchasing their kid a $500+ iPad 2, 3, or 4. So the solution is simple, purchase an iPad Mini for them. The Mini is smaller and can fit small hands better, it’s easier to carry and it’s also a cheaper product. Parents looking to not break the budget will be eyeing the Mini this year and Apple knows it. They couldn’t revolutionize the iPad so why not make it smaller, more portable and more convenient.
So what about the iPad 4? Where does the newest member of the iPad lineup fit into the lives of new users and existing users. We may see some iPad 1 users start to embrace the newer technology and pass down their iPad 1’s to their kids. Is the iPad 1 obsolete at this point? We don’t think so, it still performs many of the initial functions that drew us to the tablet when it was first released initially. The performance benefit can be the main reason for people to upgrade. The screen is also a plus embracing the newer screen technology found in the 3. What about iPad 2 and 3 owners? I still think both of these products are great and the need to upgrade to a 4 might not be as necessary if you own either of these two devices. Perhaps when Apple introduces the 5 at some point in the future may we see a larger move over to the newer technology. Apple does need to add some significant hardware upgrades to the next models. We really need to see a hdmi, SD card slot or something to make the product competitive to some of the Android tablets. We have seen the Android tablets start to dominate when it comes to available features that are built in.
In any event, all these devices are bound to break and you will at some point need assistance from a repair center. The Repair Sharks, www.repairsharks.com will be here to help whenever you need assistance. Give us a call or visit our website for more information.

Before you opt for the services of an iPad repair company, you may want to consider trying to repair it yourself. In some instances, iPad users have been able to repair their own device, and save a lot of money to boot.
We believe in not only offering the best customer service experience, but we also want to make your life easier. That means we don’t mind sharing tips and ways to help you do your own repair. It’s all about helping you get the most out of your iPad experience.
iPad Repair Act 1: How To Fix Frozen Screens
At some point in time, your device may start freezing every once in a while. Some people refer to this as a crash, because the home button does not respond, nor does the touch screen or the sleep/wake button. It’s really annoying and it can cause some people to worry if their device will ever work properly again.
If Your Screen Freezes Do The Following:
Restart the device by pressing and holding down the sleep/wake button for 10 seconds or until the red slider displays. Slide it across and close the device down. Then, restart the device by hitting the sleep/wake button on the top of the unit until you see the Apple logo.
Reset your device. If your device did not work when you restarted it, then you’ll have to reset the device. You are able to do this by hitting the sleep/wake button and the home button together for fifteen seconds. This will cause the iPad to reset.
iPad Repair Tip: Restoring the iPad
If neither of the above suggestions work and your iPad is still unresponsive, then you’ll have to restore the device to the factory settings.
Let’s look at these steps;
- Be sure to have a USB 2.0 connector cable and the updated version of iTunes.
- Connect your PC or Mac to the iPad. Then launch the iTunes application.
- In the Devices area choose the iPad icon. Then click the summary tab and hit the restore button.
- When the system prompts you, click the Back Up button so that you can save all of your iPad’s settings and media.
- Hit the Restore button.
- This action will do a restoration to your iPad’s default factory settings. It will begin to install the lateset firmware and iPad operation system. Once it’s done, your iPad will be ready to restart.
- You’re now able to restore all of your media and settings from the last back up you did. Then, you’ll click Continue. The device should be up and running again.
iPad Repair Act 2: My iPad Won’t Turn On
Perhaps you’ve got an iPad that just won’t turn on. It used to work fine, there were no freezes or crashes, but for some reason now the device will not come back on.
There’s no need to panic over this issue. Most likely, the device is in the suspend mode. This means that the device is waiting for a response. In these situations, press the sleep/wake button or the home button for activation. Although, it is very likely that the iPad is completely turned off which can also be the case when some people first discover that their iPad just will not turn on. The following three steps will work for any iPad including iPad 1, iPad 2, and iPad 3.
3 Simple Steps To Blast Through Your iPad Woes
iPad Repair Tip1: Hold down the wake/suspend and home button simultaneously. You’ll then see the Apple logo display on the screen after about 10 seconds or so. This means that your device is booting up. You should be ready to go in just a few more seconds.
iPad Repair Tip 2: If your device does not boot up after 10 seconds or so, your battery may need to be charged. There’s a 30-pin connector cable and adapter that enables you to plug the device into your wall outlet. You’ll use this to charge up your device instead of plugging it into your Mac or PC. After giving it at least 45 minutes to charge, try repeating the first step again. Your device should boot up just fine after that.
iPad Repair Tip 3: If your device still does not turn on, then there may be a hardware issue at play. The quickest solution is to go to your nearest Apple store or seek the services of an iPad repair service. If you do go to an Apple store, you can definitely find some helpful employees that can troubleshoot your problem. Keep in mind, though, that the fees and prices may be very expensive, when compared to a third party iPad repair service.
Saving Your Battery Life
Although the battery has about ten hours of life, for some it is not enough. They are on the go all day and need something to last as long as possible. There’s nothing worse than trying to watch a movie and your battery juice is low. So here are a few tips to help you maximize on your battery charge.
- Make adjustments to the brightness of the iPad. There is an auto-brightness feature that enables you to tune your device, depending upon the quality of light within the room. In case you are not comfortable with the auto-brightness feature, you can go into the settings and change the brightness of your iPad.
- Turn off the GPS. The 3G iPad models are equipped with GPS. Most people don’t use the location services on this device as much as they may use them on iPhones. Turning off the GPS will be an easy and quick way to save your battery life. If you do need GPS you can always turn it back on by clicking on the settings option.
These are just a few tips that can help you fix your iPad problems. For any repairs, be sure of what you’re doing. If something goes wrong, you may end up spending a lot of money on repairing/replacing your iPad.
Of course there are many more types of repair issues that are beyond the scope of this article. We repair cracked glass, water damage for all iPad models. Currently we also do custom swabs for iPad 2 so don’t hesitate to drop us a line and check out our iPad repair services.
If you have questions regarding iPad repair or would like to get any of the iPad models repaired professionally please contact the Repair Sharks, www.repairsharks.com .
Repair Sharks has already begun getting inquiries into iPad 3 repairs. As of March 2012 we are waiting for new inventory to arrive and the high prices to drop. Parts are available for the 3 but on a limited scale at this time. The cost for the 3rd Gen iPad parts is high currently due to the limited availability on the market. The repair process is similar to the iPad 2 but there are some differences in how the cabling is presented inside the iPad. The digitizer cabling has moved higher and the length of cabling attached to the digitizer itself has more than doubled. The LED display is also different from the 2nd Gen models.
We have recently heard of heat issues with the iPad 3. Apparently there are some concerns that the iPad 3 gets hotter than its counterpart the iPad 2. Some tests have shown that the increase in temperature is rather significant after an hour of use. Comparing the new generation model with its predecessor heat concentration profiles is different inside the unit. Thermal tests have shown higher temps with the 3rd gen over the 2nd gen.
Other issues that are becoming apparent with the iPad 3 are its battery charge reporting. Apparently the iPad 3 in its current version and firmware is showing a full battery even though the battery hasn’t fully charged. Testing has shown that to acquire a full charge can take up to 2.5 hours more than what the charge indicator is actually showing. While the iPad 3 is showing a 100% charge it is actually a 90% charge. Although the battery is larger than the iPad 2 the reporting of the battery level is not as accurate as it should be. We don’t know if Apple will ever get this right. It seems like reporting of actual system performance gets cloudy with Apple’s products. Take the iPhone 4 for instance. The iPhone 4 was / is known for reporting false cellular signal strength.
Experts say that the new thermal profile of the iPad 3 is normal and within comfortable operating conditions. Some users have pushed testing to the limit and have noticed the difference from the iPad two but have also noted that it isn’t uncomfortably hot, it is just warm. A lot has to do with the new Retina display as some have noted. See below for some published thermal graphs that compare the two models.
iPad 3 Heat Profile vs. iPad
The Retina display on the iPad 3 actually uses 2.5 times more backlight power compared to the iPad 2 hence why you see a steady warm area throughout the entire iPad. We are wondering that even though this is working within the thermal limits of the unit how does it affect longevity of the internal components? How will the iPad 3 compare to the iPad 2 in terms of burnout? We will just have to wait and see. Given our inquiries already the front glass will and has cracked so don’t be too surprised if a minor fall causes major issues. As of right now, it doesn’t look like there are many options for reducing the power usage within the iPad 3. Since most computers these days can stay powered on for years without any issues it may prove not to be an issue. We can suggest turning off the display when not in use, turning off wi-fi, killing running applications, and monitoring you’re charging as good things to keep in mind.
If your iPad 1, 2, or 3 does break be sure to give Repair Sharks a call. We have extensive experience working with these units. Our level one and two technicians can resolve
We are hearing rumors that March 7th is the date. Not sure if it’s true or not but we shall see in a few days. It doesn’t seem like any of the pictures floating around are of the real device. Only time will tell if the real pics will be leaked prior to that date. The new iPad 3 will certainly have to fight for a once Apple owned position in the market. With the release of so many new and improved Android tablets the iPad is playing catch up now. From the information we have seen it looks like the repair process will be similar for this new model although there looks to be some new challenges possibly making it more difficult to do without damaging other components. The internal cable layout will be different and with Apple’s use of an LED based backlight the screen cable placement will likely be different.
Recently a leaked picture of the new digitizer assembly has surfaced. It looks similar to the iPad 2 but there are a few noticeable differences such as the cable placement.
The new iPad 3 should have a faster processor amongst other things. The addition of an LED based backlight setup is supposed to be used on this model. It doesn’t seem apparent what the processor will be yet as some are stating some new version of the A5 chip or even possibly an A6 chip. If it follows suit with some of the other releases that Apple has done in the past then we may see the same chip in the iPad 3 that will be used with the iPhone 5 when it is released.
Does it pay to upgrade? I guess it really depends on how and what you use the iPad for. The iPad 2 is still a very good device and functions well on the web. A faster setup should allow for even better aps running on the iPad platform. Overall it will be interesting to see how Apple differentiates this from the iPad 2. It’s hard to improve on an already sleek and well performing design.
We will certainly be looking to dissect the iPad 3 when it comes out and engineer a new repair process for the device when it is released. It may take some time for repair parts to surface but given the release of digitizer pictures it looks like some of these parts are already in the works. If you do break your iPad 3 contact us to see if there are repair options available.
 iPad 3 Digitizer
We have been repairing a lot of iPads over the last two years. Although the iPad 2 has outsold the iPad 1 at this point we still see a fair influx of the iPad 1 models coming in for cracked glass issues, LCD problems, and water damage. The cost of an iPad 1 is still high and we suspect that this will remain steady going forward. Apple’s products have a higher resale value even after years of use compared to competitor’s products. After all an iPod is still an iPod regardless if it is 1 year old or 8. The device still plays music which is its primary function. The addition of all the bells and whistles is what makes each model more appealing.
A lot of avid iPad users like the iPad 1 over the iPad 2 due to the accessibility of jail breaks that the iPad 1 has had. Not until recently have we seen an A5 jailbreak (Absinthe) that actually works. Will this be the change of tide that will move iPad 1 users to the next platform? Possibly, but we still think there is a lot of value in the iPad 1 that a consumer may want to reconsider upgrading to an iPad 2. With talk of the iPad 3 stirring up in news blogs consumers may feel compelled to jump to the new iPad 3 when it is released. It will be interesting to see the market once there is a 3rd gen model available of this revolutionary tablet. The design has changed drastically from the 1 to the 2 and it is our guess that much of the iPad 2 platform will be transitioned into the iPad 3 models. We still see room for improvement and we believe Apple leaves this gate open for future models, otherwise users would have a hard time justifying the upgrade.
We just repaired an iPad 1 actually that was completely smashed. All 4 corners were damaged severely and the class was actually falling off the device in many areas. We removed the old glass / digitizer, or as we like to call the touch panel, and replaced it with a brand new piece. The corners were repaired individually to allow for the new glass to be installed properly. iPad 1 glass repair is much different than the iPad 2. We wonder what the newest generation will bring to the table.
Due to the complexity of these tablets and the potential for lots of collateral damage we always recommend having a professional repair the iPad 1 or 2. We see many damaged iPads from repair attempts gone bad. Some of the components are extremely critical to the devices operation and damage to any of the micro sized cables or components can end with a non-working Apple iPad.
Repair Sharks has repair options available for iPad 1 and iPad 2. We will be sure to be re-engineering the repair process for the iPad 3 when it is finally released. If you or a friend needs help getting their iPad repaired give us a call and we can help.
 iPad 1 Glass Repair
The iPad 2 is one of those devices that you just love to hold in your hand. It’s also one of those devices that love to leave your hand. The iPad is a slick and sleek design that feels smooth to the touch. Unfortunately it’s just as slippery as it sounds. iPad screens although durable are usually one of the first pieces of the iPad 1 or 2 to get damaged. The glass can crack with just the right amount of pressure in any of the 4 corners or by direct impact to the screen. The iPad has a tendency to drop towards a corner much like one of its counterparts the iPhone 4 and 4s. Cases can only do so much and even the best case designs have still resulted in cracked screens.
When your front glass digitizer or LCd cracks on your iPad 2 in most cases the best option is to have it repaired. The cost of replacing the iPad can far exceed the cost of repairing it. The front glass on an iPad can be replaced safely using new replacement glass and adhesive. The repair must be performed by an experienced technician. An experienced technician will know the proper methods for removing and replacing the damaged components. There are many components that are directly tied to the front glass panel; these components can easily be damaged. The repair can take a technician up to 4 hours depending on how bad your glass and unibody housing is.
