The iPad 2 is one of those devices that you just love to hold in your hand. It’s also one of those devices that love to leave your hand. The iPad is a slick and sleek design that feels smooth to the touch. Unfortunately it’s just as slippery as it sounds. iPad screens although durable are usually one of the first pieces of the iPad 1 or 2 to get damaged. The glass can crack with just the right amount of pressure in any of the 4 corners or by direct impact to the screen. The iPad has a tendency to drop towards a corner much like one of its counterparts the iPhone 4 and 4s. Cases can only do so much and even the best case designs have still resulted in cracked screens.
When your front glass digitizer or LCd cracks on your iPad 2 in most cases the best option is to have it repaired. The cost of replacing the iPad can far exceed the cost of repairing it. The front glass on an iPad can be replaced safely using new replacement glass and adhesive. The repair must be performed by an experienced technician. An experienced technician will know the proper methods for removing and replacing the damaged components. There are many components that are directly tied to the front glass panel; these components can easily be damaged. The repair can take a technician up to 4 hours depending on how bad your glass and unibody housing is.

Repair Sharks offers repair services for the iPad 2. We have been repairing the iPad 1 and 2 for some time now and have had great results. We offer Front Glass, LCD, and water damage repair of the iPad 2. We can also replace such things as power, volume, wifi, and 3G cabling in all iPads. The iPad 2 repair process is different from the iPad 1 in many ways. Apple has used a lot of adhesive to hold the iPad 2 glass in place and it is a difficult repair to do without damaging other components in the iPad.
We do not suggest repairing an Apple iPad 1 or 2 unless you don’t care if you damage it. Once you damage another component it becomes much more involved to get the iPad working again properly. Through doing these repairs we noticed that the glass itself is very dangerous. It can become very sharp and splinter easily during the removal process. Sometimes we repair these using 2 technicians to speed up the repair process depending on how bad the crack is.
Give us a call for any repair questions you have regarding the iPad 1 or 2. We stock glass in both white and black and have performed hundreds of repairs on them.
iPhone 4s repair is similar to repairing the original Apple iPhone 4 in many ways. The front glass is virtually the same as is the LCD and Touch panel assembly. It also seems to crack much like the 4 does. The glass on the front and back although aesthetically pleasing is still vulnerable to damage if dropped. There are some slight differences in the frame of the new iPhone 4s making causing the price of repair to be slightly more in some cases but overall the price of the repair is very close. The device internals are slightly altered from the original AT&T version of the 4. It looks like the 4s has adopted many of the changes that came with the later Verizon iPhone 4 model.
Performance wise there isn’t a major change over the 4. The 4s definitely responds faster in some applications over its predecessor. The dual processors are a nice step up from the 4. Overall the physical appearance of the 4s is almost identical to the 4.
Repair Sharks has full repair options available for the iPhone 4s. The iPhone 4s is a difficult repair and requires experienced technicians to complete it properly. Our technicians take the necessary time to diagnose your issues and offer you the best advice for repairing any model iPhone you may have. Give us a call and we will be happy to help. We service iPods and iPhones both nationally and abroad.
We just released a short repair video for the Apple iPhone 4. It should help anyone looking to make a self-repair (although we highly recommend professional repair service due to the complexity). The video gives an overview of the steps needed to remove the iPhone 4 back casing, internal screws, logic board, vibrate control, dock connector, Front Glass, LCD, and Frame.
Always purchase quality parts for these repairs. All parts and repair services aren’t created equal. We regularly receive 3rd party parts from our customers who couldn’t complete the repair. These parts are usually always of lesser quality than our shop. It does make a big difference especially when it takes about an hour to complete this repair properly. The only way to test these parts are after complete reassembly.
Saving your iPod or iPhone after receiving water damage can be difficult. The internal components of these devices are extremely compact making it difficult to reach certain areas for cleaning easily. If you are one of the thousands of people that have gotten your iPod or iPhone wet at some point you should take every precaution to prevent the liquid from doing further damage while you attempt to dry it out. Repair Sharks can repair many water damaged iPods and iPhones by reconditioning the internal components and reflowing certain areas of malfunctioning logic boards. The process is unique to Repair Sharks and has been evolving regularly using new techniques and procedures to raise the success rate of such repairs.
We get many questions regarding the cost of repairing a water damaged iPod or iPhone. There really is no set way to distinguish price for water damaged iPods unfortunately. Each case is generally unique in nature. The damage can be minimal requiring just a battery or cleaning to start working again or it can require much more detailed work such as reflowing certain portions of the logic board. If our initial repairs do not yield a working iPod then we have more in depth options where specific repair work to the logic board would be performed. In the majority of cases the price is going to be more cost effective than purchasing a new one. We find that the average customer saves about 50% off the price of buying a new unit and sometimes even more of a savings.
Other types of liquid damage such as soda, tea, coffee, salt water, pool water, etc., can do more damage than clean water. Salt can corrode internal circuitry within a few minutes and start to eat through the tiny pins on the chips. Batteries usually blow quickly when water is present inside the casing as well adding to the problems that you have. If the iPod or iPhone water damage is caught and treated early enough the iPod could be saved without needing major repair work.
Many of our customers ask us what to do when their iPod or iPhone gets wet. We usually suggest putting the iPod in a zip lock bag with white rice. The rice will help with moisture absorption and essentially pull the water out of the device. To take this one step further we suggest keeping it somewhere warm to help raise the humidity level inside the iPod or iPhone and help the rice absorb faster. This whole process can take a while so be patient. We usually recommend two days as a good rule of thumb. Some people may say one day is enough but we have seen many iPods and iPhones with water still lingering inside after being in rice so the longer the better usually until a technician can look at your iPod and clean the additional water left behind.

iPhone 4 and iPod Touch 4th Generation Repair Information Both the new iPhone 4 and Touch 4th Generation pose new challenges on the repair front. Apple has created yet another list of repair obstacles with its latest additions. Different from previous models the process of replacing the Front Glass, Digitizer, and LCD on the new Apple 4 models take on a new approach as we see the integration of the LCD panel into the Front Glass.
Front glass integration is no new thing to Apple as this style was used in the iPhone 2G. Would be home repair technicians soon found out how difficult it was to actually replace the Front Glass without needing to replace the LCD at the same time on the 2G. It is possible to remove the LCD from the Front Glass but next to impossible to do it without damaging other parts. Let’s be honest, trying to pry off a glued paper thin LCD screen off another piece of thin glass is not the easiest task. Even with heat the removal process is both time consuming and messy. Even if you are lucky enough to get it off how do you get it back on to the new Front Glass? Many times you will incur other damage from attempting such a replacement. The most logical step is to avoid this problem completely and to replace them together as one part which eliminates the separation and re-adhesion process. This method is more expensive but when you weigh in the time and work involved it is more economical to do it this way.
At Repair Sharks we have the complete solution. We provide Front Glass and LCD assemblies that are pre-built and ready for replacement. Although replacing even these components is very difficult it does make the job a little easier on our end and our self-installation customer base. This method also provides our customers with a factory finish that is dust and debris free.
