Dropping the cost for owning an iPhone

New rumors have been surfacing recently around the possible release of a new and cheaper iPhone. The new iPhone will take many elements from the current Apple iPhone 5 model but be a cheaper build quality. The rumors in the mill are that the phone will use plastic components rather than the aluminum currently used for the framing and casing on the iPhone 5.

The iPhone 4 incorporates the aluminum frame with a glass back and front which is slightly different from the current 5 model with its aluminum back. The new cheaper model that Apple may release looks to go back to the days of the iPhone 3G and 3GS.  Release of this new iPhone isn’t slated until at least next year so don’t get your hopes up anytime soon. Marketing execs at Apple have also stated that they will not be developing a “cheap” smartphone although some sources say the story has been revised from their original statements.

In any event, the Repair Sharks are always here to help. Plastic cracks just as much as glass and the front screen is going most likely be Gorilla Glass, or as we like to call it Monkey Glass. If you need any assistance with any of the iPhone models, 3G, 3GS, 4, 4S, or 5 give us a call. We are here to help!

iPad 4 and iPad Mini Release

So we are finally seeing the new iPad Mini hit the market. What does everyone think so far? It’s our prediction that the iPad Mini is going to be one of the hottest gifts this holiday season. With kids all over the world drooling over their parents and siblings iPads every parent is going to have to answer the call of today’s technology savvy adolescent.

Kids are growing up with cutting edge technology both in the classroom and at home. Many parents can afford or see the value in purchasing their kid a $500+ iPad 2, 3, or 4. So the solution is simple, purchase an iPad Mini for them. The Mini is smaller and can fit small hands better, it’s easier to carry and it’s also a cheaper product. Parents looking to not break the budget will be eyeing the Mini this year and Apple knows it. They couldn’t revolutionize the iPad so why not make it smaller, more portable and more convenient.

So what about the iPad 4? Where does the newest member of the iPad lineup fit into the lives of new users and existing users. We may see some iPad 1 users start to embrace the newer technology and pass down their iPad 1’s to their kids. Is the iPad 1 obsolete at this point? We don’t think so, it still performs many of the initial functions that drew us to the tablet when it was first released initially. The performance benefit can be the main reason for people to upgrade. The screen is also a plus embracing the newer screen technology found in the 3. What about iPad 2 and 3 owners?  I still think both of these products are great and the need to upgrade to a 4 might not be as necessary if you own either of these two devices. Perhaps when Apple introduces the 5 at some point in the future may we see a larger move over to the newer technology. Apple does need to add some significant hardware upgrades to the next models. We really need to see a hdmi, SD card slot or something to make the product competitive to some of the Android tablets. We have seen the Android tablets start to dominate when it comes to available features that are built in.

In any event, all these devices are bound to break and you will at some point need assistance from a repair center. The Repair Sharks, www.repairsharks.com will be here to help whenever you need assistance. Give us a call or visit our website for more information.

Xbox 360 Repair Troubleshooting – Do This Before You Get It Repaired

This article will detail Xbox 360 repair troubleshooting methods that you can implement yourself. This can help you save valuable money and hassles. Keep in mind that this article is not going to be able to cover all known repair issues, and for some issues you do need to opt for a third party Xbox 360 repair service.

If you’re familiar with Xbox repair services in the New York area, then you know how expensive it can be. This article is designed to help save your valuable time and money.

Troubleshooting Xbox 360 Red Ring Of Death (Also known as Xbox 360 RROD)

Infamous red ring of death can usually be fixed with a very simple fix that does not require you to do any disassembling of parts. If you assume that your device needs to be sent to an Xbox 360 repair service or has to be sent back to the manufacturer, you would do yourself a favor by troubleshooting and finding out just what the problem is.

The red ring of death happens when three red lights form a ¾ circle at the power button of your device and the device stops working altogether. Be aware that by opening up your console you will void out the warranty. If the warranty on your device has already expired or you’ve already opened it up previously, then you’ve got nothing to lose. Otherwise, you’ll want to really think hard on whether or not you want to open the device.

Causes Of The Ring Of Death

Xbox 360 Repair Tip 1: Whenever your console is not able to get enough power, there are several ways that you can identify the problem and fix it, without having to open up the console.

Xbox 360 Repair Tip 2: One of the causes of the red ring of death is overheating. Your Xbox was created to shut down on its own when it overheats. At times it will do this before any damage can happen to it. If there is no damage, then avoiding this red ring of death is synonymous with avoiding overheating.

Xbox 360 Repair Tip 3: If there has been damage because of overheating, then it could be due to the design issues involved with the Xbox 360. Primarily the CPU and GPU uses up a lot of power, and thereby generate a lot of heat.

This makes it a really heavy burden on the cooling system of the device. Keep in mind, that it does not take much to cause your console to overheat. Just the smallest bit of wrong usage on the part of the Xbox owner will end up overheating the console. But then again, even the most careful users have experienced overheating.

Xbox 360 Repair Method: Fixing The Dreaded Red Ring Of Death/ Error E74

If you’re considering of letting your console can be fixed by an Xbox 360 repair service, please check out our trouble shooting tips first. They don’t involve you having to open your device at all, so you can have peace of mind if you have a warranty on it.

Even if you have a warranty and you’re thinking of shipping it off to the company for repairs, it’s a good idea to check the steps in this article.

Restart your Xbox console. Depending on where you live, there may be electrical brown outs or black outs. This happens in areas where there is hot weather and everyone has their central heat/air units on or their air conditioners running. This can cause a momentary lapse in electrical power. This can trigger the dreaded red ring of death.

  1. Reconnect all of your power cords and cables. You may have a loose cord or cable. Any power cords and cables that you can remove need to be disconnected. Unplug the cable from the wall. Then, reattach all of the cords and cables back into the Xbox. Now power it up and turn it on. Replace any damaged or worn cables.
  2. Connect the hard drive again. Turn off your Xbox console. Next you’ll unplug the power cord. Then, you’ll disconnect the hard drive. After that, you’ll connect the power again and turn the Xbox back on. If your Xbox does not display the three red lights error message, turn it back off and disconnect the power again. Then, connect the hard drive again, plug in the power cord, and turn the Xbox back on.
  3. Bypass all of the electrical obstructions or impediments. If you’re going to be using a surge protector, extension cord, or plug strip then remove these items and plug the power cord right into the wall outlet. Long extension cord can end up reducing your power and surge protectors can often be defective, so be aware of this issue.
  4. Check with another power outlet from a different room or different location. The wall out that you usually use may not have adequate power. You can rule this problem out by taking your Xbox to another room with a different wall outlet. Be sure that it is on a different circuit. This usually means it will have to be in another room, although this can vary depending on your home’s electrical set up. Alternatively, you can take it to a friend’s or relative’s home to try it out there.
  5. Resolve any issues with power brick. Your power brick may be overheating. When this happens, your Xbox does not receive the necessary power it needs. This can bring about the dreaded red ring of death. The power brick will not cool off unless      there’s enough ventilation. It’s a good idea to keep it off any shag carpets, bed covers or bed sheets.

Xbox 360 Repair Services Available

. You can choose to have the manufacturer repair your console, which will probably involve packing the whole thing up, printing labels, and shipping it off. Then, you’ll probably have to wait anywhere from 4 to 8 weeks to hear anything back. In the meantime you will not have your Xbox to play with.

Be aware that the steps above help you to troubleshoot the red ring of death, but in case something goes wrong in the process, you may end up spending a way lot of money than you would have, had you called us in at the first place to do the repairs.

We do repairs on red ring of death issues, DVD drive issues, cooling mods, etc. We also provide Reflow and Reball services for the Xbox 360 console, as well as drive repairs on Xbox 360 slim, drive rebuilds and replacements. iPod Repair—What To Keep In Mind

There are a lot of iPod repair services, but the first question always is “Which one is best?” The word “best” is subjective. It all depends on who you ask. No matter how bad a company is, there will always be someone that will swear by it.

On the other hand, no matter how good a company is, with the best customer service, and best products, there will be at least one person who will tell you he would never do business with that company again.

Common Problems

A very common problem that happens to a lot of iPod users is that at some point, the iPod gets wet. It can happen from sweat while working out, dropping it into the toilet by accident or a light drop of rain. The exposure to water can be catastrophic. The result is that the iPod could possibly be damaged, sometimes, beyond repair.

If Your iPod Has Been Exposed to Water – iPod Repair Method I

Let’s talk about this and we’ll show you some common steps you can take. Remember that you don’t want to waste too much time waiting, because the water could end up leaking into the inside of your iPod Touch 2, Touch 3, or Touch 4.

These instructions can also be used for your iPod Nano, iPod Classic, iPod Video player, and even the Apple Touch 4.

  1. You need to turn your iPod Touch off immediately, if you still have it on. This is because the potential for permanent damage is high the longer you leave the device on while it is is in contact with water or any wet liquid. The great news is that most      of iPods are relatively thin, when compared with other gadgets. You may be fortunate and be able to avoid any damages, but don’t make assumptions that the water did not leak into the inner parts of your device. Sometimes people call an iPod repair service immediately, and don’t even turn on their device.
  2. If water is spilling on to your iPod Touch, then you’ll want to quickly dry it off, using a piece of cloth. The degree to the damage will depend on how successful you will be in wiping the device completely dry. You can use a paper towel that’s been moistened, with rubbing alcohol to wipe it. The rubbing alcohol will cause the liquids to dry quicker.
  3. Leave your device turned off for at least twenty-four hours. If the liquid exposure was from a minor spill or rain, it will give you some time before there is any intrusion. So, again, you’ll want to be sure to dry your device as best as possible.

If there is any significant water exposure, the device may not turn on after twenty-four hours. If this is the case with your iPod Touch, then you may need to seek additional troubleshooting and iPod repair steps.

This includes looking for replacements under any warranties that you may have bought with the iPod. You have the option of repairing your device yourself, or you can hire the services of a third party provider to begin the process of your iPod repair. The worst case scenario, of course, is that you may need to purchase another iPod Touch.

So there you have it. A few steps to help you prevent any permanent damage to your iPod Touch. Be aware that you do not plug the device into the computer charger or the wall while you have it turned off during the twenty-four hour period. Some people have plugged their device in after it has gotten wet, and this has resulted in catastrophic damages to their poor iPod device.

If Your Ipod Has Been Exposed To Water – Ipod Repair Method II

You may have heard of the Rice or Kitty Litter(Dust Free) Method. Although at first thought it sounds a little odd to use rice or kitty litter, but the basic idea is real simple.

The rice is used as a material for moisture absorbing. The same thing goes for kitty litter(dust free), since most of the rice in today’s supermarkets has some kind of dust that penetrates the devices. So let’s look at this secondary iPod repair method.

3  Steps To Peace Of Mind

Step 1 – Open the back of your device and remove the battery. Depending on what model of iPod you’re dealing with, it may be required for you to use specialized tools in order to be able to take the iPod apart. If you’re trying to fix a model that does not have the removable battery, then you can still try to take it apart, but your chances of success may not be as high since iPods in general are difficult to dissasemble without damaging the components.

Step 2 – Wipe all of the device’s components very carefully with a cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol. The rubbing alcohol is crucial, because it dries the liquid immediately when put on a surface. It helps to dry the surrounding liquids too. After you’re done wiping all of the components off separately, you’ll put them in  plastic back with uncooked rice.

You can also put the uncooked rice or dust free kitty litter in a plastic bowl that is open to the outside air and atmosphere. Because of the hygroscopic composition of the rice, it absorbs any moisture that may be left on your components. So when you’re placing your device into a bag full if dust free kitty litter or rice, it will wick up any remaining moisture from the device. This can help prevent any short circuiting that the liquids may cause when you want to turn it back on.

Step 3 – Leave the device in the bag of dust free kitty litter or rice for about 48 hours. The bag needs to be put in a warm and dry environment. After the 48 hours are gone, you want to check your iPod repair results.

Check carefully to see if there is any water visible. If everything looks good and dry, then begin putting the device components back together into one piece and turn it on. If it turns on and works without any incident for several hours then your iPod repair plan has worked. If not, then it may be time to consider the help of a repair service.

Android Smart Phone Repairs: Dude Where’s My Screen!?

So your Android smartphone screen has cracked or appears to be broken, and you’re looking for some tips on Android smartphone repairs that could possibly work for you. Today’s cell phones always seem to get broken, especially the screens. Screens are usually especially sensitive to damage and breakage.

Accidents Can Happen

Although your unit may have been dropped, stepped on or accidentally cracked, there is still a way to replace the screen with a brand new one. Replacing the LCD screen involves a complicated process, due to the size of the components. The good news is with enough time, patience and tools, this can be done easily.

How To Repair A Broken Screen

Android Smartphone Repair Tip 1: Power your phone off completely. You can do this by holding down the power button for about ten seconds. Then you’ll turn it over and take off the back plate. Next, you’ll need to use your fingernail to slide under the battery. This will pop it out of your phone.

Android Smartphone Repair Tip 2: If you have a GSM phone, then you’ll want to find your SIM card. Pull back the covering over your SIM card and take the card out. Set the card aside and go on the next tip.

Android Smartphone Repair Tip 3: Locate the plastic RF grommet. This is usually near the battery, at the bottom of your cell phone. You’ll need to take this grommet out by using some tweezers.

Android Smartphone Repair Tip 4: Tweezers should be inserted into the holes. These are located on the sides of your cell phone and are directly opposite from the area where you found RF grommet. You’ll utilize these tweezers in order to pull up the inside latch. This latch is located inside the hole. This will unlock the bottom plastic cover for the antenna. Lift off the cover and set it to the side.

Android Smartphone Repair Tip 5: You’ll pull out the screws that are located at the edges of the device. You’ll need to use a Torx screwdriver for this. Next, you’ll want to take the metal plate out, right off your cell phone.

Android Smartphone Repair Tip 6: Flip your cell phone over so that you can view the LCD. A flat head screw driver can be used to slide it between the bottom of the phone and the seam of the plastic cover. You’ll now want to wiggle the screwdriver up and down in a gentle manner so that you can release the catch under the cover. Next, you’ll pull the plastic cover off the device.

Android Smartphone Repair Tip 7: You’ll discover the latch on the side of the screen. You’ll want to unlock that. You can do that with your tweezers. You’ll pull the screen off of the handset and then remove the cable that is running from the phone to the screen. Lay your replacement screen into the phone. Then, attach all the necessary cables.

Android Smartphone Repair Tip 8: Place the plastic back cover back on to the phone, by flipping your phone over. Next, attach the metal plate back and put in all screws. Push the RF grommet into place. Then, place your SIM back. Put the battery back into the cell phone, and the put the plastic cover back on. Then you’ll power it on to make sure it’s working.

How To Repair Market Place Application

Who doesn’t love the Android marketplace? It enables you to download third party programs on your phone, but you must remember that the marketplace is an application in of itself. Just like the programs on your computer, the Android market application can end up running into problems sometimes.

These usually involve stalled downloads and incomplete downloads. The application can refuse to open up or it can just stop responding to you. By doing a hard reset, you can restore this Marketplace application. Although this can solve your problem, there are also less drastic measures you can take so you don’t have to worry about losing your information and settings.

  1. Press down and hold down the power button your phone. Your device options menu will display a few options. Touch “reboot” and power your phone off and then back on.
  2. Test your Android Marketplace application after your cell phone has turned back on.
  3. Open your application screen and see if the application is working properly.
  4. Press down the “menu” button on your cell phone. Next, you’ll touch “settings”.
  5. Touch the “applications” option and then choose “manage applications”.
  6. Touch the “all” tab and then choose “market”. Next, you’ll touch “clear data” and then follow  that with “clear cache”. For Download Manager, Google Talk, Google Mail, Google Apps, and IM you will need to have the process repeated.
  7. Repeat the first two steps. If your Android Marketplace is still experiencing issues, you’ll definitely have to do a factory hard reset. This will end up deleting everything on your phone. You’ll have to reload your phone’s operating system from scratch.      Your email contacts and email messages will need to be synced to your Gmail. They are then restored once you re-active your cell phone. Be sure that you back up your information. You can do this by moving it to a computer or to a memory card.
  8. Select “menu” button on your phone’s main screen and then go to “settings’.
  9. Select “privacy settings” and then follow it with “factory data reset”.

Should You Take It To A Repair Service?

The above information works well for most Android phones, including the HTC, LG, Samsung and Motorola. Of course there are many more technical issues involved that you may not be able to fix yourself.

Remember; if one step is not done right, no matter what you do, you may have to spend a lot of money in repairing the phone or buying a new phone altogether to be able to use it again.

This is where we come in. We can do glass replacements for almost all Android phones, as well as higher level repair work done on the popular models. We are New York’s finest Android Smartphone repairs service provider, and we pride ourselves on providing our customers with the best repairing services, at the lowest price you can think of. iPhone Repair Guide: How To Fix An iPhone 3g or 3gs Screen

Almost everyone has an iPhone today, so it’s very common to have screen damage when working with iPhone repair methods.  You’re on your lunch break finally: it’s a late lunch because work has been chaotic today, and the phone rings just as you’re carrying your lunch tray back to the table. You reach in your pocket for the phone, and in the rush of things it slips out of your hand and drops to the floor.

You pick it up only to see that your screen is now damaged. So what do you do?  The following steps can be performed on the iPhone 3G and 3GS.

Key Iphone 3G and 3GS Repair Steps

Iphone Repair Step 1: Immediately back up your entire phone! Plug it right into your PC and go to iTunes to reach your phone. Once there, select “sync”.

Iphone Repair Step 2: Collect all of the tools and equipment necessary. All of these can be purchased in packages or kits online.

You’ll need to ensure that you’re getting the correct type and size for the phone.

Here is a list of things you’ll need:

  • Replacement glass screen
  • Phillips screw driver (#00)
  • Scraping tool, wedging tool or razor blade
  • Qtips, heat gun or hair dryer, and rubbing alcohol
  • Double-sided tape, superglue and scissors
  • Small suction cup
  • Tweezers

Iphone Repair Step 3 Check out the bottom of your device. This is the side that has the home button on it. On either side of the USB connector, you’ll see two screws. Use your Phillips screwdriver to take them out. You do not have to take out the SIM card to open your device.

Iphone Repair Step 4: Once you’re done removing the screws, you’re ready to take the screen off. You’ll want to be very careful when doing this. You’ll need to use a scraping tool, wedging tool or the razor blade that goes between the rubber and metal. There you’ll lift the screen and you may see it still being attached to the phone. At this point you’ll use a suction cup to pull the screen up. Some people prefer this over the scraping tools, because of the damage scrapping tools can do to the rubber surrounding the device. Put your suction cup just over what’s known as the home button. From there you’ll gently pull the glass out, without risking any damages to the rubber gasket.

Iphone Repair Step 5: Search for flaps. These are in the top right of the phone, which hold the phone and the screen together. Labels 1 and 2 are very bright and orange on top of the flaps. Once you’ve located them, you’ll lift them off with the wedging tool.

Iphone Repair Step 6: Check to see if there is another third sticker under the number 2 flap. This sticker may be a bit different from the previous two stickers. You’ll have to lift the clamp in order to free it from the remainder of the device. Then, you just pull it on out.

Iphone Repair Step 7: Take out six more screws. The side rails have five screws, three of which are on the same side as the flaps and the remaining two are on the opposite side. The last screw is located on the top right. All of them are the same. You do not have to think about keeping track of which screw fits where. You’ll see some black tape over the screws. This is not necessary, so you can take your blade and cut the tape that’s covering the heads of the screws.

Next, you’ll separate the glass from the LCD screen by putting your fingernails between the wedge and the rails. You’ll maneuver it out. The LCD has to pop up to clear up the flange. You may need to use a little pressure here.

This will free the LCD screen from the frame. You’ll then clean the frame from the glass that’s broken if you are going to use your existing frame. This is probably the most difficult part and may need time, patience, and accuracy. The frame is delicate and can warp and break easily. You will most likely need some heat here.

Preparing Your New Glass Screen

If you’ve double sided tape available with you, you’ll want to be sure to cut the tape out correctly. If you’re using superglue, then be sure that you do not put it too close to your home button. Most new screens come with adhesive strips that you can use, this is usually the best way to do it.

You’ll put the adhesives to the wide black plastic on the top or bottom. Be sure to stay away from the middle. Don’t let any glue get into the listening piece or the home button, once again. Then, let it set for several minutes. If using tape, use tweezers to manipulate so that your finger oils don’t end up all over the tape. The oils in your fingers diminish the performance of the tape.

Reassembly

Put the glass and LCD back together. There is only one way to correctly do this. The rail is longer on one side than the other. This is a best way to mach it. Next, put all the six screws back in the way you took them out. After that, you’ll side the number 3 cable back into your clamp, thereby making sure that it is open.

Then, you’ll put the number 2 and number 1 cable back to the connector. Lastly, you’ll put the glass screen back on to the phone and put the last two screws into their respective places. There you have it, you’ve fixed your screen!

What If This Didn’t Work?

If at some point you get stuck or you realize that you may not be able to repair this yourself, then you can try opting for our iPhone repair services.
